Giving Tuesday is here! Today is a day to pause and remember those who need our help—and we shells sadly need all the help we can get. Fortunately, there are many excellent organizations dedicated to helping turtles and tortoises, whether it’s through conservation efforts or rescuing abandoned shells.
This year, we would like to highlight a wonderful, all-volunteer nonprofit that especially needs our help: American Tortoise Rescue! American Tortoise Rescue runs a permanent sanctuary for special needs turtles and tortoise in sunny California and also helps save shells around the world through education and media outreach. We have American Tortoise Rescue to thank for the best day of the year, World Turtle Day!
American Tortoise Rescue needs our help to keep doing their shell-tastic work: Last fall, the rescue’s turtle hospital and home were destroyed by the devastating California Woolsey Fire. Thankfully, almost all the critters survived, shell shocked but safe. A year later, the rescue’s team is working hard to rebuild their turtle hospital and rebuild their sanctuary.
